Dentures and oral care for older adults

Comfortable dentures and healthy gums require daily care, periodic review and attention to changes in fit.

Dentures and oral care for older adults

Oral health remains important at every age. Dry mouth, medication, reduced dexterity, chronic conditions and changes in diet can affect teeth, gums and dentures.

Caring for dentures

Clean dentures daily with an appropriate brush and cleanser, rinse after meals and follow your dentist’s advice about overnight removal. Avoid adjusting or repairing dentures at home.

Watch for changes

Book a review for soreness, ulcers, looseness, difficulty chewing, altered speech or changes in facial support. Denture fit can change as gums and bone remodel over time.

Do dental visits still matter without natural teeth?

Yes. Reviews can identify oral infections, dry-mouth problems, tissue changes and signs that require further investigation. Oral-cancer screening remains important.
